like (insane) chanting, only with exclamation marks

Right now Oona is going through a repeating phase, as in
baby coat!
baby coat!
baby coat!
baby coat!
or
two babies!
two babies!
two babies!
two babies!
or
daddy coat!
daddy coat!
daddy coat!
daddy coat!
and so on. And almost always followed by the incomprehensible, such as
no baba puh!
no baba puh!
no baba puh!
no baba puh!
a danny!
and the only thing you can do -- if you want it to stop, if you want your brain to stop bleeding, and not go crazy, and set yourself on fire -- is to say, Yes, no baba puh, a danny, excellent, thank you for telling me that.

Now if you'll excuse me, *someone* just had a poo so egregious (and lingering) that I need to walk around with a lit match for awhile.

You people with kids can just continue with these little anecditties. They're like extra birth control for the rest of us.

  3. One of my favorites with Leo is "No Ratatouille, No Ratatouille"! said with a very distraught look on his face. Kids learn by repeating, not anyway around that for parents really. Leo will be 2.5 years the end of Feb and he is not really doing that as much anymore so you do have some light at the end of the tunnel. One afternoon I was babysitting him he stops playing, grabs my hand, and says "Come On Nanny! Let's Get Cake"! (The exclamation marks are Very important!) Although being a Grandparent is a a lot different because we can have breaks.

  5. Once she is of a certain age, she will sing along to God-awful popular music. She will repeat lyrics so banal that it will decrease your IQ. And you will sing them too. And hum them before you drop off to sleep.

At least the poo episodes will diminish.

  7. For months when Hannah was around 3 she repeated,
"I GOT WAHN CWAW BUPPY WAH!"

eventually we figured out it was a from Ferngully

"I've got one claw, but beware"
