What!? What happened to the Rapture? Instead all we had was bad weather, and even that trundled past and past like one of those stop-motion films, sped up spluttering, the clouds twitch boiling with something like silent film menace, and then the brite-white sun, and much wondering, before sudden shadows and storm. No one knew what it would do, and we all asked the same question over and over all weekend. You get the sense that much more of this is owing, that it would not be a shock if it started to go like this all the time. Don't even look at David Suzuki's doom mouth –– your head might pop off. I did see an obviously deranged woman in hightops and full-length fur coat, hopping on and off the curb, and some fat teenage mothers laughing at her as they pushed baby strollers and smoke up Princess Street, and all I could think was, Well, crazy is still better than stupid ... or doomed.
C is friends with the fashion stylist Rebekah Roy (left in both pics above) ... one of those people who personify calm and smiling success. On her blog she presents glamour in this very sincere, straightforward way ... whether she's taking pictures of people on the street , talking about stain removers , her favourite videos , or attending some glittering party . One minute she's ruminating on hair extensions, and in the next she reveals how she's been featured on the Vogue UK site. A real disarmer and charmer (and this without meeting her yet, although I feel like I know her because we both did our time in Winnipeg). * * * * * Coming home from Russia, we did many bad things. ; mixed media on canvas, 10 x 10 inches. In my own life, the glamour is wholly imagined. * * * * * witches, smoke ; mixed media on canvas, 10 x 10 inches. My second go at this one, and for some reason I'm painting a lot of smoke lately (note to self: tell C that I want to be cremated). *
Can you believe we all survived? :) I did read an interesting article about the earth crust plate about the one where Japan, New Zealand, and Chile are all on. Basically the article was saying that the there is still one earth quake left for the plate in the NW of the plate in Oregon/California because when one side of the plate has a earthquake- the other side well- like a bell. :) I am sure the end of the world is going to be due to us humans.
ReplyDeleteWearing hi-tops to jump on and off the curb sounds quite sensible to me. It could get a bit warm under the fur coat but maybe she's trying to sweat something off.
ReplyDeleteI figure that I wanted to be here than raptured anyway..who wants to hang out with hymn singing dogooders? All my cohorts are still here..wait I haven't heard from Nancy..maybe she was one of the few? She is a nice person..but my Mom is still here and if anyone was going up would be her. Oh well waiting to see what happens on Oct.21st.
ReplyDeleteStupid is probably easier than crazy but from an a spectators point of view you're spot on.
