My books came yesterday. The wee man at the post office grunted a little when he set the boxes on the counter. What's in there? he asked. Screams, I said.
It's strange: this thing that lived in my head, these many things, then scribbled into notebooks, and rattled into keyboards, and illuminated blinking on a computer screen, letter by letter, word by word, written and read and printed and edited and read and pushed together as some kind of idea, followed and then chased by pictures, made drawings, and finally sent out, to be negotiated, and addressed, and now here they are back, finished and saying there.
How can you get your hands on a book? Well, you can come to the launch. Or you can order a book from the publisher. Or you can order one from me at bestiary@fastmail.fm (I'll send you a PayPal invoice, and mail the book once that's paid). The good news about ordering one from me is that I'll put a little ink drawing in each copy I send. The bad news is that I won't mail it until after the 19th (I need to make sure I have enough copies for the launch first). And then I'll have your address, and I'll start stalking you with a helicopter.

Hurrah! It looks lovely. My daughter is APPALLED at your title, which is a good sign.
ReplyDeleteCongrats again D! Love the look of them all piled together in the box. Of course when the box is empty, because they've been all purchased up of course, that also will be a pretty cool site.
ReplyDeleteO Jenn: it's so nice to hear your voice in my head again (and please tell your daughter that no children were tossed down wells in the production of this book).
ReplyDeleteSheri: Always the best thoughts from you. ;}
I'm so proud. And jealous. But mostly proud.
ReplyDeleteI emailed you at the wonky address to get the invoice.
O Lora: you're like my conscience, only with more whipping power.
ReplyDeleteOh my

How wonderful
Can you post to Scotland, I'm desperate to read more of your work? Whether you can or not, congratulations!
ReplyDeleteWell done, and yes red is a wonderful colour. I love the title of your book it reminds me of something my husband says in a fake southern accent 'I'll slap you like a red headed step child', he has red hair and he was a step child and this is all a bit red and rambling and random...hmm
ReplyDeleteKaz: yep, it is
ReplyDeleteEryl: of course I can post to Scotland
Kylie: anything red is complicated
Excellent, email coming up.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
ReplyDeleteThe tights are yellow - not orange.
How exciting!
