go mad or die

Place mats by my sister Rachel. She makes great stuff (yes, those are pockets for cutlery). Now she just needs to set up a shop on the web. * * * * * New spot illo's for my short story collection, which I have picked up again from a shelf with some pretty thick dust. Thankfully, the damned thing goes in the mail today (prolonged editing of your own work will make you very, very crazy). * * * * * Moving from big project to big project these days, while C hums along in her steamroller way, although she did notice that I hadn't posted anything on "bread-handed" lately – for her an almost eye-popping level of interest/concern. Here she is being all matron-of-the-girls-boarding-school with her new book/project whirligig, which you can find here . * * * * * Speaking of casual brutality, it took C just a few dashed-off emails to give the fish away to some total strangers (they're either Nazis or psychotic circus clowns, I can't remember which). stories & tales (& theory)

For the month of March (5th - 31st) I'm part of a group show called Stories & Tales at artstream studios . The show also features the work of Abby Glassenberg , Alena Hennessy , and Tara Hogan . If you happen to be roaming around New Hampshire on March 7th, race over to Rochester and take in the opening from 5 to 7 pm; you'll find Susan to be a lovely host. * * * * * And what a relief it is to be done all this work: fifteen pieces in total. This was a constant journey in message and techique, and I could feel things really sharpening by the end of it, as if I'd reached a conclusion. More likely, it was just a somewhat solid-looking landing spot. My artist's statement: I paint misguided fables – those imagined (and remembered) dreamscapes of childhood, where icons of fun get twisted around with the glamour and dread of all things unknown, and the extraordinary just wanders in. The meanings of these self-imposed stories are mostly fleeting or fantastical or mis

Not the best of luck with my photography here but it will have to do until I can scan. * * * * * bedtime (good night) ; mixed media on canvas, 10x10 inches. And yes, those are matches. * * * * * Two last images for Susan to choose from (for the group show). I'll let you know about her cruelty or kindness on Monday.

escape, together , mixed media on canvas, 10x10 inches, the string series continues. The IF theme this week is 'blanket', which is kind of like having a theme like 'pail' ... or 'headphones'. Anyway, stuffed animals (like the one in this painting) are very much like security blankets. Either that or I'm just posting whatever I like, regardless of the theme. * * * * * Another weekend, another snowstorm (or blanket of snow ). At least this time they sent us home early. * * * * * On Friday night I was part of a wee poker tourney, about 20 people. I finished fourth, winning about $50, with the consolation that I made some very good reads, both on folds and calls, and was knocked out by the same guy who knocked out everyone at the final table, working a stack that allowed him to bounce back from several heavy beats. * * * * * On Sunday, as a b'day treat, me and C went to see There Will Be Blood . This was a long, dark psalm on the nature of brothe
