Kristal Melson: too cool for the average apostle

My wee friend Kristal was just featured on startdrawing.org , and because she is so magically talented you should immediately go see it here . {Above is an older drawing, but one of my favourites.}

whac-a-mole

This illo is for a poem (first in eight years) called Whac-A-Mole , about love's wounds and symptoms.

for illo friday ... {camouflage}

Don't breathe, don't even make a sound ... ; hiding from another weak theme for Illo Friday.

General George Armstrong Custer

See that line between glory and disaster? I charge right at it. Dashing cavalryman, son of the morning star, every inch the devastating blonde, married but on the road a lot for work, seeks SWF for some white-glove treatment. No Confederates or Indians. This week's Illustration Friday Night theme is a flawed attempt at a personal ad .

gungun

A drawing for a story called GunGun (and yes, I know his hands are missing, that's the point).

what are you afraid of, mister zebra?

This week's Illustration Friday Night theme is what are you afraid of? The order, from the top, is zebra lion noises, like the end

simone calling

An illo for a story of the same name.

for illo friday ... {rejection}

At last, a good theme for Illo Friday this week. This particular rejection is the more standard kind (including the soppy text). Mixed media, with some scratchboard.

monoprint, aborigine

Second in a series, this one had a lot of ink in it, and a bit too much water too; thankfully the colour scheme stayed together, more or less.

fox in monoprint

Another fox, but this one's a monoprint on paper. He's still mischievious but less diabolical than the last guy.

on the day of your release

A good-looking blonde woman I know thought this was a kitty; he's really more of a bear, but what the hell. Illo for a story of the same name.

a suit for rainy weather

I found this old suit at the bottom of a drawer. Spattered, purple ... what's not to love?

in his own circle of hell

I posted comrade Stalin on Illo Friday Night (the theme is special moustaches ).

for illo friday ... {suits}

Just look at all these bald-headed, rush-hour pricks. Here's hoping their office is on fire.

in the kingdom of chicken

I drew this lovely couple for a (highly sexual) story of the same name. We'll see how it goes over at my writer's group tonight.

under a new red sun

My motorcycle cop again, still racing, under another red sun. 5x7 inches, canvas.

happiness for mister sunshine (blue)

A larger, more difficult canvas that was always meant as the first part to this .

fixed fox

I'd painted this fox before, for a reason which has since disappeared, so now I've fixed him. 14x14 inches, canvas.

kangaroo in blue

This weekend I tried to paint a kangaroo in blue. This is a very counterintuitive thing to do. The only way I could resolve it was to place everything in rain.

your paradise ...

... to be young and beautiful, and never die; this wicked dream, the never of never, perverted, like a curse.
